Γεννημένη το 1958 στο Boimorto της Γαλικίας, η Maria Luz Casal, όπως είναι το πλήρες όνομά της κάνει την εμφάνισή της στη δισκογραφία το 1977 ηχογραφώντας το τραγούδι "La guapa", ενώ το 1982 κυκλοφορεί το πρώτο της άλμπουμ με τίτλο "Luz"
Το 1991 κυκλοφορεί ένα από τα πιο πετυχημένα της άλμπουμ με τίτλο "A Contraluz" από το οποίο ο διάσημος Ισπανός σκηνοθέτης Pedro Almodovar επιλέγει τα τραγούδια "Piensa en mí" και "Un ano de amor" για την ταινία του "Tacones Lejanos" (Ψηλά τακούνια). Τα τραγούδια γνωρίζουν τεράστια επιτυχία μέσω της ταινίας και εκτοξεύουν στη κορυφή την Luz Cazal.
Η μεγάλη Ισπανίδα ντίβα, πού είναι ιδιαίτερα δημοφιλής και στην Ελλάδα με πολλές εμφανίσεις τα τελευταία χρόνια, με την εξαιρετική φωνή της και ερμηνείες που χαρακτηρίζονται από το συναίσθημα και το πάθος εξακολουθεί και παραμένει στην κορυφή μαγεύοντας τους ακροατές της.
