Από τους πιο σημαντικούς εκπροσώπους της jazz μουσικής, ο Louis Armstrong, χαρισματικός μουσικός και τρομπετίστας αλλά και ξεχωριστός ερμηνευτής, με τη χαρακτηριστική βραχνή φωνή του, ξεκίνησε τα πρώτα του μουσικά βήματα την δεκαετία του '20, στο Σικάγο συμμετέχοντας στην ορχήστρα Creole Jazz Band του King Oliver, ως δεύτερος κορνετίστας, το 1923
Τα μετέπειτα χρόνια πραγματοποιεί συναυλίες σε Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και Ευρώπη, ενώ το 1947 ιδρύει τους All Stars ένα μικρό, εξαμελές συγκρότημα με τους οποίους πραγματοποιεί δεκάδες ηχογραφήσεις
Το 1956 συνεργάζεται με την τεράστια Ella Fitzgerald και κυκλοφορούν μαζί 3 άλμπουμ με πολύ μεγάλη επιτυχία υπό τη σκέπη της δισκογραφικής Verve.
Το 1964, ηχογράφησε τον πιο επιτυχημένο εμπορικά δίσκο του, με τίτλο "Hellο Dolly", ενώ το 1968 ερμηνεύει συγκλονιστικά το τραγούδι "What a Wonderful World".
O Louis Armstrong πέθανε τον Μάρτιο του 1971 αφήνοντας πίσω του τεράστιο μουσικό έργο. Ίσως η παγκοσμιοποίηση της jazz μουσικής να του οφείλει πάρα πολλά.
