Elvis Presley

Ο Elvis Aaron Presley, όπως ήταν το πλήρες όνομά του γεννήθηκε στο  Tupelo του Mississippi το 1935 και τα πρώτα του μουσικά ακούσματα ήταν  μουσικές και  τραγούδια blues, country και gospel.

Το 1953 και αφού η οικογένεια του είχε μετακομίσει στο Memfis από το 1948, πληρώνει $3,25 για να ηχογραφήσει ένα δίσκο στη Sun Records, με τα τραγούδια "My Happiness" και "That's When Your Heartaches Begin", που ο Elvis έδωσε στη μητέρα του, ως δώρο για τα γενέθλια της

To 1954 o Sam Phillips το αφεντικό της Sun Records, βρίσκει στο νεαρό Elvis αυτό που από καιρό έψαχνε, δηλαδή τον λευκό τραγουδιστή με το νέγρικο συναίσθημα στη φωνή και έτσι στις 19 Ιουλίου του 1954 βγαίνει στην κυκλοφορία το πρώτο δισκάκι με τη φωνή του Presley στο τραγούδι "That's All Right" που σημείωσε πολύ μεγάλη επιτυχία.

Η γνωριμία του με τον «συνταγματάρχη» Tom Parker to 1956 αλλάζει ολοκληρωτικά την πορεία του και τον οδηγεί στη κορυφή. Ο Parker παίρνει κυριολεκτικά την καριέρα του Elvis στα χέρια του και τον μεταφέρει από την Sun στην RCA. Οι ηχογραφήσεις και οι κυκλοφορίες δίσκων ακολουθούν καταιγιστικό ρυθμό και μέσα σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα γίνεται παγκόσμιο είδωλο και μύθος. Η ερμηνευτική του δεινότητα αλλά και οι κινήσεις του σώματος όταν ερμήνευε τα τραγούδια του, δημιουργούσαν υστερία στη νεολαία, αλλά έντονο προβληματισμό στην συντηρητική μεσοαστική τάξη των ΗΠΑ.

Με προτροπή του Parker ασχολήθηκε με τον κινηματογράφο αλλά και με τηλεοπτικές εμφανίσεις, κίνηση που ναι μεν του απέφερε τεράστια κέρδη, αλλά που τον απομάκρυναν από το rock 'n' roll.

To 1957 κατατάχθηκε στον Αμερικάνικο στρατό και με την επιστροφή του άρχισε να ασχολείται περισσότερο με τις κινηματογραφικές ταινίες παρά με τη μουσική.

Ο Elvis αμέσως μετά τη λήξη της θητείας του στον Αμερικάνικο στρατό, ασχολήθηκε περισσότερο με τον κινηματογράφο. Οι ταινίες του είχαν μεγάλη εισπρακτική επιτυχία αλλά πολύ άσχημες κριτικές από τον τύπο. Μέχρι το 1968 τα τραγούδια που κυκλοφορούσαν σε δίσκους ήταν αποκλειστικά εκείνα που ακουγόταν στις ταινίες του.

Η μεταστροφή του στον κινηματογράφο αλλά και η μεγάλη μουσική εισβολή των Βρετανικών συγκροτημάτων στις Ηνωμένες πολιτείες (Beatles, Rolling Stones) ήταν οι κυριότερες αιτίες της καθοδικής πορείας της καριέρας του την δεκαετία του '60

Το 1968 αποφάσισε να επανέλθει στα μουσικά δρώμενα με μια σειρά τηλεοπτικών εμφανίσεων και συναυλιών που σημείωσαν τεράστια επιτυχία, αλλά που ο Elvis έδειχνε ότι δεν ήταν πια ο rockability τραγουδιστής των πρώτων χρόνων.

Η δεκαετία του '60 δεν ήταν τόσο καλή για τη μουσική καριέρα του Elvis. Μετά από 7 χρόνια, το 1969, βλέπει τραγούδι του να ανεβαίνει στο Νο 1 του  Billboard και ήταν το "Suspicious Minds"

Η δεκαετία του '70 ξεκινάει με τις καλύτερες προϋποθέσεις και ο  Presley κυριαρχεί και πάλι κάνοντας συνεχόμενες επιτυχίες με τα άλμπουμ που κυκλοφόρησε αλλά και με τις συναυλίες.

Το 1973, πραγματοποίησε  δύο παραστάσεις στη Χαβάη, μια από τις οποίες μεταδόθηκε ζωντανά σε όλο τον κόσμο μέσω δορυφόρου και την παρακολούθησαν πάνω από ένα δισεκατομμύριο τηλεθεατές!

Την ίδια χρονιά παίρνει διαζύγιο από την Priscilla Presley και αυτό το γεγονός τον κάνει απόμακρο, ενώ αντιμετωπίζει και πολλά προβλήματα υγείας. Φεύγει από τη ζωή σε ηλικία 42 ετών την 16/8/1977
